14/07/2009 - Scottish Champs - team report

Chris H

We set new records for the team this weekend at the Scottish Championships at Glencoe with the whole team picking up trophy's, medals and jerseys.

Glencoe has now been on the race circuit for a few years, being used last year for the Scottish Champs as well, and is now a fully defined and established track. It's open hill side proves to give the most vicious of terrains with rock littering the track from top to bottom. Its a track that claims lives and brings a halt to peoples racing year.

The toughness of this track didn't stop the MTBcut.tv Cyclejersey.com team make it five podiums for the Orange bikes and showing that if a steep gnarly track faces you then Hope brakes can only be the one thing to control you down that hill.

The most frustrating person from the weekend had to be Chris Coates who only missed out on the Championship title on Sunday by four seconds. He had some problems in his 2nd run and ended up looking up the hill behind him. Thinking that the man behind him was closing on him he did the decent thing and waited for him to pass. He went out of sight and didn't appear so Chris carried on after a few moments. On Crossing the line he was just down on the winning time. The rider behind had punctured!

All that can be said for James Scott is that he had a strong run and for the 2nd year running became Scottish champion, way to go kid!

In Elite the 3 MTBCut.tv Cyclejersey riders made it an orange 1 2 3 and took all the silver wear home. Ben Cathro won just a head of Joe Barnes with myself (Chris Hutchens) closing the pair down in 3rd.

It was a great weekend with weather changing all the time. It might have been mud heaven and more suited to a Daweizi Pig but every rider there seemed to fit perfectly in and make it a great weekends racing. Maybe it was just the IXS water proofs keeping us sane all weekend.

Well done boys!

Thanks to Ian Linton for the photographs
